April Lawn Care, 2019

Spring has finally sprung, and the season is off to a great start for PPLM and PPLM clients with April lawn care services. While we might see the occasional cold snap this month, soil temperatures are on the rise, which means lawns will soon be in the full swing of their growing season. Our maintenance crews are currently beginning our weekly mowing services as well as finishing up spring prunings and mulch installations, and our fertilization crew is completing a few spring seeding services before moving into the second treatment of the year and beginning mosquito, flea, and tick treatments.

Replenishment Fertilizer & Weed Control, Outdoor Pest Control

With PPLM’s first round of fertilizer and weed control coming to a close this week, the second half of April will see the beginning of round two, also known as our Replenishment round. This second round of spring fertilizer and weed control in our seven step turf management program is similar to round one its inclusion of pre- and post-emergent weed control, but the herbicides being used have been adjusted slightly to streamline the exact weeds that they target at this point in the year. This is the second half of 2019’s pre-emergent weed control treatments, and full summer crabgrass control is dependent upon receiving both rounds one and two. This treatment also employs another sophisticated blend of carbon based fertilizer to continue stimulating lawns for spring and building a healthy soil system.

April lawn care is also the ideal time in RVA to begin treating a property for mosquitos, fleas, and ticks as these pesky and hazardous bugs begin to emerge with warming temperatures. PPLM offers an all natural outdoor pest control service that targets these bugs without posing any risk to pollinators, wildlife, pets, or people. The Picture Perfect Pest Package covers a full season of recurring outdoor pest treatments based on your desired coverage area and scope for a flat monthly rate, making the service a win win for homeowners who want to actually enjoy the lawn they’ve invested in making Picture Perfect. Now is an excellent time to get on the schedule to make sure you’re covered for this season.

Spring Mulch & Mowing

Spring is the best time to have fresh mulch installed. An April lawn care mulch installation done as part of your spring lawn care services not only instantly improves the appearance of a yard, but it also adds an insulating barrier for the roots of ornamental plants in a flower bed. While many mulch services are done in March, it is not too late to have this service done in April. In addition to locking in moisture and protecting roots from summer heat, spring mulch installation provides nutrients for these bushes, trees, and flowers as the mulch breaks down throughout the year.

Because we had a chilly March, our mowers will officially be starting their routes during the first couple of weeks of April. Lawns come out of dormancy at different points based on their health and other factors, so your lawn may not need to be mowed as soon as your neighbor’s does. PPLM uses our professional judgement to determine whether or not a lawn will be best suited by a mowing service at all times of the year, but we encourage our clients to contact our office if there is a question about the scheduling of their mow service.
